Approved SOP and Preliminary Case Study Now Available
Two essential resources for confident and compliant implementation of reusable theatre badge hats across NHS hospitals
We are pleased to share a major milestone with our clinical partners. An approved Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and a Preliminary Case Study are now available to support hospitals in implementing reusable badge hats confidently and sustainably.
The Standard Operating Procedure
Approved SOP — Laundering & Badge Cleaning
Developed in collaboration with Somerset NHS, this SOP outlines the trust's laundering process for hats and the cleaning protocol for badges. It serves as a practical guide for clinical teams looking to adopt best practices while maintaining hygiene and safety standards.
The Preliminary Case Study
Preliminary Case Study — Implementation at Musgrove Park
This case study details the methodology behind the rollout, including the number of hats and badges ordered. It provides a compelling analysis of both cost savings and the reduction in CO₂ emissions achieved by switching from disposables — an important consideration for trusts focused on sustainability goals. It also highlights improvements in name and role recognition, supporting better teamwork and communication on the ground.
Where to Access the Documents
Together, these resources provide an evidence-based foundation to help hospitals make informed decisions and realise the human, financial, and environmental advantages of transitioning to reusable solutions.
We have also added a Document Download area to our website — aimed at having all our research and studies available for you to download and understand the long-term benefits of our reusable name and role badge hats. We will be updating this area in the coming weeks.
Feedback from clinical staff has been encouraging, with several unexpected benefits emerging after implementation. We're proud to share these findings and look forward to supporting more trusts through the process.
